RED SOFT, a Russian developer, has launched a new release of its operating system - RED OS 7.3. It is based on the latest Linux 5.10 kernel, which is currently a premiere for the domestic operating systems market. RED OS is released not only for x86_64 architecture, but also for ARM architecture (Huawei, Baikal, RPi).
"The new version of the RED OS is focused primarily on the user. We put a lot of emphasis on usability, refining the interface and expanding the list of supported hardware according to our customers' wishes. The Linux 5.10 kernel allows us to enhance the functionality of the operating system making RED OS a universal environment for handling a wide range of tasks", Rustam Rustamov, Deputy RED SOFT CEO, commented.
The main changes made to the RED OS installation:
- LTS (long-term support) is available in the 7.3 release of RED OS, with a minimum term until 2024.
- Optimized file systems, which through a faster metadata dump to disk will noticeably reduce the time it takes to perform file operations.
- The list of supported hardware has been expanded considerably. Specialists have made improvements to support older versions of printers and scanners. RED OS 7.3 release uses the most complete driver packet base - GutenPrint, OpenPrinting-PPDs, Foomatic.
- The interface is made more friendly and intuitive for the Windows user, reducing staff training costs.
- Added support for the latest GPUs - AMD NAVI (integrated graphics in ryzen 5000 and lower families) and Intel (graphics integrated in 10th generation processors and lower). Graphic drivers have been updated.
